Herbs and Remedies

Welcome to the Incredible World of Chinese Herbs!

Our acupuncture clinic in Miami specializes in more than just acupuncture, we also specialize in Chinese Herbal Medicine.

The first thing you need to know about your herbal formula(s) is that it may typically contain anywhere from 3 to 50 individual Chinese herbs (roots, flowers, stems, leaves, barks, peels, seeds, nuts, fruits, seaweeds, minerals, and sometimes even animal products).

They have a very unusual taste and smell, but you will become accustomed to their uniqueness the more you use them.

Optional: Eating half a date, some raisins, or half a tablespoon of honey immediately after ingesting the herbs can help reduce the aftertaste.

Watch the video below for a demonstration of how to do this

Herbs work in your body, not in the bag!

The most important part of taking herbs is taking the full dosage daily. If you don’t take enough, the herbs will not work.

Instructions for taking your herbs:

1. Take with or without food. It typically doesn’t matter when you take your herbs, the most important thing is taking them and not missing your daily dose.

  • You can take them on an empty stomach, 30 minutes before or 30 minutes after your meals.

  • If you are having difficulty digesting the herbs, have digestion problems before taking herbs, or are currently taking antibiotics, take your herbs 30 minutes after your meals. This typically solves the problem.

2. When taking herbs for the first time, it is normal to experience a bit of bloating, constipation, or loose stools because you are introducing something new into your body. Typically, this goes away as you get used to it. This can also often be a detox reaction which typically goes away as your body eliminates toxins.

3. If the herbs are giving you any unpleasant reactions, it generally means the dosage is a bit too high for you at this moment. We will gladly tell you how to adjust the dosage. Do not hesitate to text or email us at any time. We are here to help you get the most out of our care.

One of the major differences between TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) and Western Medicine is that in TCM, we do not accept any negative side effects from our herbs. If you suspect a side effect from taking your herbs, we consider that an unsuccessful treatment. We will alter the formula until there are no more side effects and the problem for which the formula was designed to treat is remarkably better. Side benefits of taking our herbs are quite common.

Enjoy the great benefits of this ancient medicine, and please stay on your agreed-upon treatment schedule.
